About

I have been a professional artist for more than 30 years. My wife and I ran our brick and morter gallery in a little tourist town of St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada for many years and finally retired to our cottage in northern Ontario in 2008. We do some travelling and I’m still painting but for my own pleasure. My wife thought others might be interested in what I’ve done and am doing with my art so here it is. Hope you enjoy!

  1. Hi Roger,
Beautiful work! I have recently picked up a few of your prints, as they have a great deal of sentimental value to me, having grown up around Mennonite country (KW). We might also be related, as that was my surname at birth, so another good reason to become a collector. 🙂 Enjoy your retirement!

  2. We have an oil painting which we received for our 25th wedding aniversary in 1989 named “Cottage Road”. Any details you could provide would be most welcome.

  3. Hi Bill.
I’m not sure I answered your comment…Sorry, I’m still learning how this site works.
The Cottage Road painting was the road to our cottage just outside Barrys Bay, an hour beyond Bancroft.
We retired there in 2008, then sold it in 2014 and moved back to Waterloo, Ont.

  4. Am looking for prints of builidngs in St. Jacobs Village, the market and surrounding Mennonite farming community.

  5. Hi Mike,
If you click on the link fineartamerica on my webpage header, I have a number of scenes of what you are looking for and you can order them in a variety of sizes, very reasonable cost. Hope this helps.

  7. Hi Roger,
I am looking for a print of a sketch you did of St Jacobs Public School. I believe you created it about 20 years ago, maybe more. The school had the image produced on mugs which they gave to guest speakers, graduates, teachers leaving the school and the like. Any help in tracking down a paper print would be appreciated.

  8. Hi Roger,
Do you have any original paintings to sell? I have an 18″X24″ original painting of yours and I would love to buy another. Is there a website of original paintings for sale?

  9. Sorry, I don’t have a website for originals but what I can do is put together pictures of what I have at present and e-mail them to you.
I’m curious to know what painting you have.

  10. Hi Roger;. Love the website. Just wanted to say hello and tell you that your original painting of the Mennonite farmers, building a neighbours barn, is still prominently displayed in our home. You painted the picture in 1981. Last we corresponded with you was in 2006. Enjoy your retirement.

  11. Hi Roger,

My parents have 4 of your original paintings that they purchased in the 80s and they are looking for another original. Is there anywhere to purchase your originals?

    Thanks
    Michelle

  12. Hi Michelle. I am afraid I have no originals for sale at the moment. When I do, I’ll post them on my website rogerwitmer.com. I’m working mainly on commissions, so if they have an idea of what they are looking for I can work with them so they get just what they want. Roger Sent from Mail for Windows 10

  13. We have a series of your original oil paintings from our parents’ home in Oakville.

They are farm scenes representing each of the four seasons.

We are wondering their value and might be interested in selling.

    They are beautiful.

  15. Roger I now in Melbourne Australia and am downsizing. You will be surprised that I purchased a set of 3 water colours from your gallery in St. Jacobs in the early 1880’s. I have just removed them from their frame. I would like to sell them and would need your advice.

  16. Hi. I just purchased three of your original oil paintings. They are very small and are pastoral scenes.. I really like them and wondered if you could tell me the location you based the paintings on. I could send you photos of them. Thank you.

  17. Hi roger I bought the Sniders Mill original painting back in 2008 just when you were closing your store down. I need to get it insured and I was wondering if you could give me an estimate of the value? We love it!

  18. Hi, Jenny. I really don’t know present market value of my art work. I’m pleased you are still enjoying it.Roger Sent from Mail for Windows 10 From: Roger Witmer Fine ArtSent: March 15, 2021 10:38 AMTo: rdwitmer44@gmail.comSubject: [Roger Witmer Fine Art] Comment: "About"

  19. I have print #220 of “The Jacobstettel” which was my Grandfather , W.W.Snider’s house , “Evenholme”.
I have fond memories of visits there, involving an overnight train ride from Montreal !
Exploring the race bank, the railway bridge, Rose garden and the “cottage” on the property.
Back then , in the early 50’s, there was still grain spilling out from the storage silo at the mill.
The painting brings it all back.
    Thanks.

  20. I am wondering if there is a way to get a print of “Grandpa’s Farm”? My mom has many of your prints but would like to have this one for her 85th birthday. I looked on fineartamerica but they do not have that particular one. I appreciate your help if there is a way to obtain a copy. She is looking for a 5×7 copy.

  21. Hello Mr Witmer
My Mother told me that you both are cousins and that you painted a scene for her. Her background is Wilmot and Mennonite with her maiden name Witmer. She is 93 and currently living in a nursing home. My question is how could this painting be appraised for insurance purposes or sale. I personally have purchased some of your prints. Thank you for any info.
    Sincerely Her Daughter,
    Deborah Stack

  22. Hi Roger. We bought a print of yours many years ago called “Teamwork”. Can’t seem to find any information about it on the internet. Can you tell me a little bit about it? My email is: dminaker@golden.net. Name is Doug. Thanks.
