This painting in 2005 was a commission by the Graham family of their family cottage. Mrs. Graham’s father had recently passed away. So on a whim,…. if you look to the right in the water, I added an image of her father doing what he loved…fishing.
I was prepared to eliminate the father if it didn’t go over well, but fortunately it brought happy tears to the family. Now their father is forever at the cottage with them.
Back in around 2000, Jack wanted a painting of his daughter with her horse. This was an 8×10 painting so it took a little work to get the detail….a number of #00 and #000 brushes helped.
Paul came to me around 2000 to paint their cottage in the Muskokas.

Another painting from my archives from around 1994. This is from the University of Waterloo campus. A bright sunny,cold morning if I remember correctly.
This is Carl , his wife was one of students back around 1998. They invited us to help make maple syrup in their back yard. They tapped their own trees and cooked the sap on this home made “cooker”. The neighbor boy cooked some weiners in the syrup as the sap boiled off….tasted delicious!! After it boiled down to maple syrup we poured it from the large black tray through cheese cloth into containers. They were so kind, they gave us some to take home. What an experience!!

Collecting Sap the Old Way. Except for replacing the barrel for a metal tank, this hasn’t changed at all. Many Mennonites and Amish still use horses, pails and stoneboat to collect the sap.
