Caius’ Closet

This cupboard from The Merry Wife’s of Windsor play caught my eye at the Stratford Archives.
It was very dark inside the cupboard so I sat quite close and sketched a partial section of it. Again I added a spritz of water to my colour and watched it bleed. It’s exciting to watch this but also stressful as one doesn’t know how it will end up. What I may have to do is allow the brown ink to dry longer to control the bleeding a bit more.
If you look closer you can see an owl in the cage.
Sketching at The Stratford Archives
The Urban Sketchers Waterloo Region received permission to let us have access to the Stratford Archives on Saturday. A good number of us spent a wonderful time sketching costumes. I sketched these two costumes from the King Lear play. After sketching with my brown ink pen, I added watercolour and then spritzed water on the drawing to allow the colour to do it’s thing. The ink ran a little more than I wanted but I kind of like the effect. It allows me to loosen up my art a bit.
Finished sketch
Finish sketch! Added the splatters just for the fun of it! I think I’ll enter this image in the Urban Sketchers art show during Oktoberfest at the City Hall. There will be 15 of the Urban Sketchers displaying their art. Be sure to check us out!
Started sketch
Started sketching….lots of angles! Used pencil first and then pen and ink and then watercolours.
Pioneer Tower Sketch
I set up my easel and stool to sketch the Pioneer Memorial Tower yesterday. Beautiful sunny day but found a nice shaded spot.

Sketch of me by Hasib
After our throwdown critic of all our sketches we proceeded to the restaurant where Hasib quietly sketched a number of us while we were eating and chatting. This one is of me. Amazed how quickly he worked. Nice Hasib and thank you !!
Kitchener Construction
Arrived 2 hours late for meeting up with Urban Sketchers downtown Kitchener today to sketch the construction. I had 40 min. to sketch before the throwdown. I found this location in the shade at King and Victoria. Joking with the workers to park the front end loader so I could do a proper sketch of it. Not going to happen! Had to do a double check to verify where I was….so many changes!! Especially at this corner! You can just make out the former Ratz-Bechtel Funeral building in the distance. A lady approached me asking how to get to the hospital, she couldn’t figure out how to get through the construction and I and the workers couldn’t help her.
