Canadian Design Archives, Cambridge
Our last sketching outing of 2016 was at the Canadian Design Archives, Cambridge Galt, Ontario.
This is my sketch for one of the postcards we will be exchanging from our group with USk Kuching, Malaysia.
It’s of a radio from 1946 produced in Montreal, Que.
Main St. bridge, Galt
Urban Sketchers Waterloo Region members sketching in Cambridge Galt, Ontario on Saturday.
Arrived early and while having brunch, sketched the Main St. bridge.
I might add watercolour to this at a later date.
Kris Kindle Market from the mezzanine
I sketched this from the mezzanine looking down over the stairs.
Kris Kindle Market, Kitchener
Went to the Kris Kindle Market in Kitchener, Sunday. We grabbed some potato pancakes went inside city hall and sat and I sketched while munching away. This booth was selling knitted hats and wool.
Santa Croce Piazza, Florence
In 2009 we spent a month in Florence in an apartment just off this piazza. My wife and I would make a lunch and sit on the steps of the church and observe the activity in the piazza and I would sketch. Every day was something different. In this sketch they were setting up tents for a market for the next day. Another day they had a huge set-up for a marathon race. In the photo you will notice a curb like oval. This was the track used for chariot races in the day.
St. Marks Lutheran Church Sketch
This is a pen and ink drawing I did for this church in Kitchener in 2000.
Over the years I’ve done many commissions like this. They are great for reproducing on mugs, plates, T-shirts or as prints.
Kitchener – Waterloo Chamber Orchestra Rehearsal
Spent Saturday afternoon listening to beautiful music at Knox Church in Waterloo while sketching with USk Waterloo Region. Sketched a number of musicians using my new blue ink fountain pen.
Then I tried something new in sketching first with watercolour and then adding ink after. Something a fellow sketcher, Nancy recommended.
I like the results.
Jakobstettel Country Inn
While operating my gallery in St. Jacobs, Ontario, I painted this popular B&B, “Jakobstettle Country Inn” with the intention of providing 8″x10″limited edition prints for their clients to purchase as a memento of their stay. It proved to be a good business decision as I sold out the edition. This was back in the early 90’s. I just did a search and it seems it is closed now and in disrepair. What a shame.
Commissioned sketch
This will show you my progression sketching a house I was commissioned to do in 2005. I start with a pencil sketch and then add ink.
